Neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood

How this looks in your town

Same trailer, same crew — but every town has its own quirks. Here's what to expect when we run this service in yours.

Somerset West

Routes through Heldervue, Parel Vallei & the CBD

Most of our Clutter route sits in Somerset West, so we usually have same-week slots available here. Estate homes in Parel Vallei and Heldervue are typically full-load jobs (garage + spare room), while townhouses near the CBD and Vergelegen tend to be quick pop-in collections.

  • Estate-friendly — we know the guard-house drill
  • Same-week slots usually available
  • Onward sales feed local Somerset West charity shops

Strand

Beachfront flats, rentals and the odd garage clear-out

Strand has a lot of Airbnb turnovers and long-term rental hand-overs, so we see plenty of half-loads — a couch and a bed frame, a stack of small appliances, kids' toys left behind. If parking's tight (Beach Road, Melkbaai) let us know when you book and we'll bring the smaller trailer.

  • Half-load and single-item pickups welcome
  • Turnaround-friendly for landlords and Airbnb hosts
  • We can meet the tenant or the agent — you don't need to be there

Gordon's Bay

Steep drives and coastal homes — no problem

The climb up towards Mountainside and Harbour Island means some of your neighbours don't get the free collections they think they will. We do. We've got the vehicle for it, and we'll load from the top of the drive so you don't have to lug anything down.

  • Comfortable on steep driveways and narrow coastal roads
  • Trusted with holiday-home key hand-overs
  • Post-season clear-outs (Dec–Feb) welcome

Stellenbosch

Student digs, family homes & the odd farm cottage

Stellenbosch is our stretch-town — we route into it on days that link up with a Helderberg run. Student-house end-of-year clear-outs are our bread and butter here (June and November especially): mattresses, desks, mini-fridges, kettles. For family homes in Dalsig or Welgevonden we route with the other Winelands stops.

  • End-of-year student clear-outs a speciality
  • Farm cottage & smallholding clear-outs by arrangement
  • Bookings from Dalsig, Welgevonden, Paradyskloof and De Zalze

Common questions

Is clutter collection really free?+

Yes — free anywhere in our service area (Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay, wider Helderberg and Stellenbosch). We make our money from onward sales, not from you.

How is clutter different from junk?+

Clutter is stuff that still has life in it — furniture, homeware, toys, books, décor. We sort it into resale, donations to local charities, and safe recycling. Truly broken items go on our (paid) Junk service instead.

When do you run Clutter collections?+

We run scheduled Clutter routes across the Helderberg every week. When you book, we'll come back on WhatsApp with the next available slot that suits you — usually within a few days.

Do you charge if the load is big?+

No — Clutter stays free. For a full house, garage or estate clearance please mention it up front so we can plan the trailer and route accordingly.

Do I need to be home when you collect?+

Not necessarily. If the items are on the driveway, in the garage or in a spot you can describe on WhatsApp, we'll photograph the load, send it to you, and be on our way. Most collections happen without the owner needing to lift a finger.

Can I request a specific charity to receive resale profits?+

The three brothers each pick a charity for the year (rotating annually), and profits flow to those. If you have a Helderberg cause close to your heart, tell us — we love adding options to next year's rotation.

What happens to items that can't be resold?+

We split them: usable but low-value goes to Helderberg charity shops and shelters, e-waste goes to a certified recycler, and only genuinely dead items (broken, wet, unsafe) end up at the correct disposal facility. Landfill is always the last resort.

Do you clear estates or downsizing moves?+

Yes — this is one of the reasons we started. We work respectfully at the family's pace, keep anything sentimental aside for you to review, and can coordinate with an estate attorney or the buyer of the property. See our Estate Clearance page for a gentler walk-through.
